AGBU MONTREAL SCOUTING LEADERSHIP
RECEIVES HIGHEST ACCREDITATION
Montreal, May 24, 2008 – During the annual General Assembly of the Scouts du Montreal Metropolitain, affiliated with the Canadian Scouting Federation, four members of the AGBU Montreal scouting movement received top international recognition for their leadership abilities. The recipients were Aline Egoyan-Pederian, Sossie Nahabedian-Rezian, Suzanne Tatarian-Atamian and Viken L. Attarian. All four received the highest international accreditation of the Wood Badge recognizing their youth leadership, they also received the highest international accreditation of the Clove Hitch Violet Pin recognizing their group management capabilities.
“With this international accreditation, AGBU Montreal demonstrates that its revived scouting movement is second to none”, said Aline Egoyan-Pederian, chairperson of the AGBU Montreal Scouts’ Council.
“I am thrilled to be part of a select group of past and present AGBU Scouting leaders who had achieved this level of certification,” added Sossie Nahabedian-Rezian, Group Leader, “We have certainly come a long way from our humble beginnings back in 1999-2000”.
“Many of our other leaders have already started their certification process and we hope that within a relatively short timeframe others will be inspired to receive this accreditation,” said Suzanne Tatarian-Atamian, Assistant Group Leader.
“The Wood Badge was instituted as a leadership accreditation program by no less a person than Lord Baden Powell himself, the founder of the world-wide scouting movement”, added Viken L. Attarian, member of the Scouts’ Council and the Scouting Honorary Society, “it provides immediate recognition around the world. To achieve this level and to aim even beyond is truly remarkable and demonstrates that the AGBU Montreal scouting movement is truly world class; this is the best gift we, as humble scouts, could make to the multiple anniversaries of the AGBU Centennial (2006), Scouting Centennial (2007) and the AGBU Montreal 50th anniversaries (2007)”.
The AGBU Montreal scouting movement is comprised of over 180 members of youth in a coeducational setting, within four age groups, and their certified and trained leadership. It is managed by an experienced team of volunteers in the Scouts’ Council. For further information, please contact the AGBU at 514-748-2428 or at agbumontreal@bellnet.ca
